If the temperature of a substance remains constant, its thermal energy will also remain constant.

Thermal energy is the total kinetic energy of the particles that make up a substance. When the temperature of a substance is increased, its particles gain kinetic energy and move faster, increasing the substance's thermal energy. Conversely, when the temperature of a substance is decreased, its particles lose kinetic energy and move more slowly, decreasing the substance's thermal energy.

However, if the temperature remains constant, the average kinetic energy of the particles in the substance also remains constant, and there is no net change in the substance's thermal energy. In other words, the energy gained by some particles is offset by the energy lost by others, so the total thermal energy of the substance remains the same.
